Residents of Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon will soon have an easy and eco-friendly way to dispose of used or unwanted batteries, as Peel Region’s curbside battery collection program returns starting April 21.
According to Peel Region spokesperson Brent Slawson, battery collection will align with residents’ regular recycling pickup day during a special two-week collection period from April 21 to May 1.
Here’s how to properly set out your batteries for pickup:
-
Place used single-use and rechargeable batteries in a transparent, sealed bag
-
Tape the terminals of all rechargeable and 9-volt batteries for safety
-
On your collection day, place the battery bag on top of your closed green bin
-
If you don’t have a green bin, place the battery bag beside your recycling bags
“Some residents will have their batteries collected in the first week, while others will be scheduled in the second week, depending on their regular recycling collection day,” Slawson explained.
This initiative helps ensure batteries are safely recycled and kept out of landfills, reducing environmental harm and promoting proper waste management.
