Brampton's E-Scooter Pilot Program Returns for Third Year with Up to 900 Scooters

Brampton’s popular e-scooter rental program is back for its third year, offering residents and visitors an eco-friendly way to navigate the city. This spring and summer, the city will deploy up to 900 rental e-scooters, continuing the successful pilot program launched in 2023.

“The City of Brampton is excited to kick off the third year of our Shared E-scooter Pilot Program, providing a convenient and sustainable transportation option for everyone,” the city stated in a press release. The program has significantly impacted how people travel around the city while also supporting Brampton’s environmental and transportation goals.

The initiative involves partnerships with three e-scooter companies: Neuron, Bird Canada, and SCOOTY. This year, the program will see the scooters spread across Brampton, up from a cap of 750 in the first year to a maximum of 900 this season.

Although the city did not specify an exact start date, Neuron has already deployed their e-scooters for the 2025 season, with last year’s scooters hitting the streets on May 1. Since its launch, the program has facilitated over 348,000 trips, totaling 2,905,711 kilometers traveled and reducing an estimated 71 to 98 tons of carbon emissions compared to trips made by gas-powered vehicles.

While the program has seen success, it has also faced some challenges. Issues regarding road safety and scooters being improperly parked on sidewalks and public property have raised concerns during annual reviews. In response, the city has worked with its partner companies to enhance the program, introducing a hybrid parking model and offering safety education tools through the rental apps.

The new parking model combines designated parking areas with free-floating zones. Users will be prompted through the app to return scooters to approved parking spots in high-traffic areas, helping maintain safety and accessibility for everyone.

Neuron’s release also outlined key rules for riders:

  • Riders must be 16 years or older.

  • Those under 18 need parental or legal guardian consent.

  • Helmets are mandatory for riders under 18 and recommended for all users.

  • E-scooters are only allowed on bike lanes, multi-use trails, pathways, and roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h or lower.

  • Riding on sidewalks is strictly prohibited.

  • Only one rider per e-scooter — no tandem riding with children.

  • Riders must give way to pedestrians and mobility devices.

  • Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs is prohibited.

  • Users should follow local parking guidelines and secure scooters using the provided lock.

  • Neuron encourages riders to stay alert and avoid wearing earphones while riding.

Brampton’s e-scooter program is a key part of the city’s effort to provide residents with sustainable, efficient transportation options while keeping safety a top priority. With the third year now underway, Brampton’s streets will see even more people zipping around on two wheels this spring and summer.
