Brampton Animal Services is issuing a heartfelt plea to pet owners in the city, urging them to utilize animal surrender services instead of abandoning their pets. This comes in response to a concerning surge in abandoned dogs and puppies, many of which were found in distressing conditions.
The city’s animal services division has been actively responding to reports of abandoned pets, including several instances of puppies left to fend for themselves. In one case on April 3, two puppies were discovered near Kennedy Road and Orenda Court, with a third puppy from the same litter found later. Just days later, a mother dog and her four puppies were found abandoned near Mississauga Road and Sandalwood Parkway.
The increase in abandoned pets has prompted Brampton Animal Services to remind pet owners of the importance of responsible pet ownership. They emphasize that surrendering a pet to their services ensures the animal receives proper care and attention.
In light of these incidents, Brampton Animal Services is urging anyone considering rehoming their pet to reach out for assistance. They offer support to help pet owners make informed decisions and facilitate a smooth transition for their pets into new homes. Alternatives such as seeking help from local animal welfare organizations or utilizing online platforms like Home to Home are also encouraged.
Additionally, the city provides resources for pet owners facing challenges in providing for their pets. This includes an emergency pet food pantry, offering supplies based on demand and availability. Pet owners can access this service by contacting the emergency pet pantry hotline or through the city’s website.
Brampton Animal Services also runs the Helping Orphaned Pets in Emergencies (HOPE) Fund, which aids sick and injured animals by providing veterinary care and rehabilitation. Donations to the HOPE Fund and emergency pantry are welcomed and contribute directly to supporting animals in need.
Mike Mulick, Manager of Brampton Animal Services, expressed pride in his team’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of animals and residents in the community. The city continues to work tirelessly to promote responsible pet ownership and prevent cases of pet abandonment.
